The owner of a West Manchester Township beer distributor fought back against two men — one of whom was armed with a gun — who tried to rob the store Sunday afternoon, according to police.

The robbery occurred about 3 p.m. at the U-Tote-M beer distributor, 1440 Bannister St., according to West Manchester Township Police Sgt. Jeff Snell said.

Snell said one man walked in the store, put a case of beer on the counter, but then told the owner he did not have enough money, and had to go to his car to get more.

The man returned, but with a second man. The first man then pulled a gun and told the owner they were robbing him, Snell said.

“There’s a short struggle … and the two suspects go running out of the beer distributor empty-handed,” Snell said.

Snell said he was not going to release the owner’s name.

Snell described the would-be robbers as black and between 20 and 30 years old. The man who pulled the gun was 6 feet tall and weighed about 200 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt over a blue hooded sweatshirt.

He was brandishing a black and silver handgun, police said Sunday.

The second man was about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighed about 150 pounds, and wore blue jeans, with a blue short over a black hooded sweatshirt. he also had some type of facial hair, Snell said.

Police believe the men ran out of the store and got into a vehicle that was parked in an alley near North Highland Avenue.

Anyone with information on the attempted robbery is asked to call police at 792-9514.
